Drawings

31st January 2021

Latest Government shutdowns means that visiting the M&SC (where our drawings are held) and officer travel are restricted. Whilst our scanned drawings are available for printing now, delivery is unpredictable during the pandemic. We will deliver drawing orders as soon as we can, but please be prepared for a delay in delivery. In addition we have had to raise our prices for shipping larger or heavier packages to the European Union because of increased costs. This specifically affects A0 sized drawings. And All shipments to the EU are subject to delays due to new export rules.

We hope things will improve later in the year.

Please see the latest information page about general society restrictions.

The latest new and updated items may be viewed on the Featured Drawings page.

The society holds over 250,000 drawings in its collection held at its Museum & Study Centre. Mostly for railway rolling stock, they cover the period from 1840s to the 1980s. It is the custodian of the extensive Metro-Cammell drawing collection as well as smaller collections from various other sources, including Derby Museum, Bob Essery, Jack Slinn, Ray Chorley & Derek Brown.

We have a small team of volunteers identifying and cataloguing the drawings; as this information becomes available it is released on to the drawings section of the society website. The information from the drawings has been entered into the database with as much accuracy as possible but it is inevitable that errors will have crept in. If anybody finds or suspects an error then, if they contact the Drawings Manager, he will arrange to have the error corrected.
